Sell your old Xiaomi phone.

This page is for Xiaomi-branded phones, from the older Mi series to the numbered Xiaomi models; Redmi and POCO have their own pages. Buyers look closely at the cameras and the screen, and need the phone to be free of your Xiaomi account. The Mi A2 and Mi A3 are the exception: they run Android One rather than MIUI, so only the Google lock applies.

Turn off Xiaomi account lock and Google FRP lock

Find device keeps the phone tied to your Xiaomi account even after a reset, and Google's Factory Reset Protection (FRP) does the same for your Google account. Both must come off before anyone else can set the phone up.

  1. 01

Open Settings > Xiaomi Account (Mi Account on older phones) and tap Sign out. Enter your password if Find device is on.

  2. 02

Remove your Google account too. It is usually under Settings > Accounts & sync.

  3. 03

Reset from Settings > About phone > Factory reset > Erase all data.

  4. 04

On a Mi A2 or Mi A3 there is no Xiaomi account lock. Remove the Google account and reset from Settings > System > Reset options (under Advanced on some versions).

  5. 05

If the phone is already reset or no longer with you, sign in at i.mi.com and turn off Find device for it.

Find the IMEI

  • Dial *#06# in the Phone app.
  • On HyperOS, open Settings > About phone > Detailed info and specs > Status. On older phones, look under Settings > About phone.
  • Check the label on the original box.

Check that it is valid with the free IMEI checker.

03

Get it ready to sell

  • Back up from Settings > About phone > Back up and restore, to Xiaomi Cloud or a computer, and save your photos somewhere off the phone.
  • Moving to another Xiaomi phone? Mi Mover copies your data across directly over Wi-Fi.
  • Sign out of your Xiaomi account and remove your Google account.
  • Take out the SIM cards.
  • Reset from Settings > About phone > Factory reset > Erase all data.
  • Find the box, the bill and the charger if one came with the phone.

What moves the price

  • On camera-focused Xiaomi models, a buyer checks every lens for scratches or haze and tries each camera.
  • The screen is checked on a white background for marks, patches or lines, and the edges get a close look on curved-screen models.
  • RAM and storage follow the version on the box. Extended RAM, which borrows from storage, does not count.
  • The original fast charger is worth bringing if your phone came with one.
  • A phone that still gets HyperOS updates is easier to sell than one whose updates have ended.

Questions

My Xiaomi phone asks for a Xiaomi account after reset. What now?

Find device was still on when it was reset. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign in with the same Xiaomi account to unlock it, or reset the password from the Xiaomi account sign-in page if you forgot it. Only the account owner can release the phone, which they can also do from i.mi.com.

Does my old Mi A2 or Mi A3 have a Xiaomi account lock?

No. These two run Google's Android One software instead of MIUI. Remove the Google account before you reset and the phone is ready for its next owner.

Is a Mi account the same as a Xiaomi account?

Yes. Older phones call it Mi Account and newer ones Xiaomi Account, but it is one login and one lock. Sign out of it before you reset.

Is Recashy linked to Xiaomi?

No. Recashy is independent and is not affiliated with Xiaomi. The Xiaomi name is used here only to describe the phones this page covers.

What is your Xiaomi worth?

A fair range for your model, age and condition, before anyone quotes you.
