Turn off Google FRP lock

Motorola phones use Google's Find Hub (formerly Find My Device) and Factory Reset Protection (FRP). A phone wiped with your Google account still on it can ask the next owner for your password.

Open the accounts section in Settings (Passwords & accounts on many versions), tap your Google account and choose Remove account. Repeat for each Google account.

If you changed your Google password in the last 24 hours, wait a day before resetting. Google recommends this.

Reset from Settings, not recovery mode: Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). On some models, Reset options sits under System > Advanced.

If you can no longer reach the phone, sign it out from your Google Account's Security > Your devices page.

Find the IMEI

Open Settings > About phone and scroll to IMEI.
Dial *#06#. Motorola's support site notes this may not work on every model.
Check the label on the original box.

Check that it is valid with the free IMEI checker.

Get it ready to sell

Back up with Google: Settings > Google > All services > Backup, then tap Back up now.
Make sure your photos are in Google Photos or copied to a computer.
Moving to a new Android phone? It can copy apps and data from this one during setup, so do that before you reset.
Back up WhatsApp chats from inside WhatsApp.
Remove your Google account, take out the SIM card and any memory card, then reset from Settings > System > Reset options.

What moves the price

On Razr flip phones, a buyer opens and closes the hinge, checks the crease and tests the outer screen.
Edge models with curved screens are checked along the edges for cracks and touch problems.
Battery life and charging are tested, so bring the original charger if one came in the box.
RAM and storage follow the version on the box.
A model that still gets Android updates is easier to sell than one that has stopped.

The lock that matters on a Motorola is Google's Factory Reset Protection, tied to your Google account. Remove the Google account before you reset, and the phone is ready for its next owner.

I changed my Google password recently. Can I reset now?

Google advises waiting 24 hours after changing your Google Account password before you factory reset. Removing the account from the phone first is still the safest order.

My Motorola asks for a Google account after reset. What now?

That is Factory Reset Protection. Sign in with the Google account that was on the phone, or with your old screen lock if the phone offers that option. If you forgot the password, recover the account through Google first.
