OTP-verified buying at the counter

How buying a used phone works on Recashy: verify the seller's number with a one-time code, fill in the minimum, read the declaration and file in two minutes.

In short

  • The seller confirms their number with a code sent to their own phone before a record opens.
  • Five things are needed to file, and everything else is optional.
  • A purchase takes about two minutes, and nothing is lost if you are interrupted.

01Verify the seller's number first

Anyone can give a false name. A mobile number that receives a code, on the phone in the seller's hand, ties the record to a real person who can be reached later. That is why a record opens only after the number is verified.

  1. 01

    Type the number

Tap Buy a phone and type the seller's 10-digit mobile number.

  2. 02

    Send the code

Tap Send code. The seller gets a text message with a one-time code.

  3. 03

    They read it back

Type the code they read out and tap Verify and start. The record opens with the number marked as verified.

02Returning sellers are recognised

As soon as you type all ten digits, Recashy checks your shop's own customer book. If the seller has sold to you before, you see their name, how many times they have sold here, their last handset and whether their ID is on file. Once the code is verified, their name and address are filled in for you.

This looks only at your shop. Other shops never see your customers, and you never see theirs.

03The minimum to file, and what is optional

Needed to file

  • A verified mobile number
  • The seller's name
  • Make and model
  • A valid 15-digit IMEI
  • The amount paid

Optional, and each one makes the record stronger

  • ID proof: Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, voter ID or passport. Only the last 4 digits and a one-way fingerprint are kept, never the full number.
  • The seller's address and pincode
  • Photos of the handset, the seller holding it, the ID and the original bill

04The declaration

When you tap File record, a sheet opens with a short declaration. Read it out to the seller, tick the box and tap Confirm and file. The words are stored on the record exactly as written.

05The whole sale in about two minutes

  1. 01

    Verify

    Number, code, Verify and start.

  2. 02

    Handset

Brand and model from the list, storage, IMEI by scan or by hand, grade, amount and how you paid.

  3. 03

    Seller

Their name, plus ID and address if you are taking them.

  4. 04

    Photos

The handset, the seller with it, the ID and the bill. Skip any you are not taking.

  5. 05

    Exchange, if any

If the customer is also buying a new phone from you, record it in the same visit. Leave the collected amount blank and it is worked out as the new phone's price minus what you paid for the old one.

  6. 06

    File

File record, read the declaration, Confirm and file.

06Pause and pick up again

Everything you type saves on its own, and there is no save button. If the customer steps out or someone else needs serving, leave the page. The unfinished purchase waits on Today under On the counter, and Resume takes you back to where you stopped.

If the sale falls through, open the draft and discard it. Nothing was filed, so your register and stock are untouched.
